The Cass Corridor Neighborhood Development Corporation held an open house recently to celebrate completion of Cass Plaza Apartments, a 47-unit, affordable housing project in Detroit’s historic Cass Corridor. The project was a team effort by Great Lakes Capital Fund, Ginosko Development, and CCNDC.
FHLBI member Dearborn Federal Savings Bank provided funding, including a $500,000 Affordable Housing Program grant awarded in 2012 through Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis. The project involves the total renovation of two vacant, historic buildings, the 3.5 floor Davenport Apartments and the 6-story building formerly known as the Naomi Apartments.
The Davenport and Cass Plaza buildings (both pictured) are located next to the newly renovated Chesterfield Apartments, together completing an entire block of renovated historic buildings—bringing back to life a warm and welcoming entrance to an historic community, decreasing blight and addressing community needs for affordable housing.
