We Were Built for This: FHLBank Indianapolis Is Your Partner During the Pandemic

For 88 years now, FHLBank Indianapolis has been meeting the liquidity needs of member financial institutions like yours, throughout Indiana and Michigan. We’re here for you in the good times, but perhaps more importantly, you can count on us in challenging and uncertain times like those we face now.

A Liquidity Infrastructure You Can Depend On

No matter the challenge, we are here for our members. We have considerable remote capabilities, and I am pleased to report that we continue to conduct business as usual and operate at full strength. Two years ago, we completed our state-of-the-art business resumption center about 30 miles from our Indianapolis headquarters. Our staff is currently working from both locations and from home to ensure we have multiple separate, uncompromised teams of critical staff available to meet your needs, no matter what.

Truly, we were built for this.

Real-time, Solution-oriented Guidance

As the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic evolves, our teams are working hard to adapt to the liquidity and borrowing realities on the ground in real-time. We continue to modify our programs as needed, providing you with the flexibility you need so that you can provide your customers the flexibility they need in a time like this. That means delivering solution-oriented guidance on collateral, and on managing mortgage loan forbearance. That means adapting Elevate, our newest Community Investment grant, to provide access to operating capital for your small business customers in the face of COVID-19.

During Any Crisis, Communication Is Vital

Our team members – from our account managers, to the Advances Desk, to our collateral team, to our MPP colleagues, to our Correspondent Services professionals, to our Community Investment department – have been in constant contact with your team members. And three weeks ago, our Communications team launched a COVID-19 updates page to keep members apprised of all of our pandemic-related communications. We also remain in contact with federal and state regulators, highlighting the vital role financial institutions perform in times of crisis.

Planning for Recovery

Liquidity is critical in a crisis, but it’s just as crucial to a recovery. We’re planning now to be there for local lenders when the coronavirus pandemic ebbs. As we speak, our 2020 Affordable Housing Program round is open, with applications due July 31. When we announce these awards this fall, we will have $11.2 mil. in competitive grants available to support communities across our district, which we hope will be busy getting back to normal.

Our goal is to help ensure that when we exit from this, you will be well-positioned to provide support to those who need it most. These last few weeks have proven how vital the local lender is to communities across our nation, and FHLBank Indianapolis is honored to stand alongside you, the local lenders of Michigan and Indiana.

Truly, we were built for this.
