The news isn’t new: Michigan is experiencing a severe shortage of available, affordable homes. From New Buffalo to Copper Harbor and Traverse City to Detroit, communities statewide are seeing an ongoing, serious need for significant investments in affordable housing.

Interested in being part of the solution? Join FHLBank Indianapolis, its member financial institutions and community partners from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 in East Lansing at FHLBank Indianapolis’ 2026 Michigan Housing Partnership Forum.

The first half of the event, reserved exclusively for FHLBank member financial institutions, will introduce the nuts and bolts of Michigan’s affordable housing landscape, as well as introduce a project to showcase a capital stack, income and rent targeting, and how tax credits work in a deal. Speakers will then demonstrate how to get started or expand into different types of debt and equity investments, with consideration for risk, return and impact. The content will be most relevant for bank leadership focused on lending, risk, investments, CRA, credit union low-income designations and CDFI certifications.

After the morning sessions, housing and community development professionals across the state are invited to attend a networking lunch with FHLBank financial institution members, followed by an introduction to the 2026 FHLBank Indianapolis Community Investment Programs available to help address housing stability through development gap funding, down payment assistance, home repair, nonprofit support and more. Several FHLBank staff will be in the room to answer any questions regarding the 2026 programs.
